A selected few were awarded 4 "silks" which was a testimony to the expected proficiency of the student.

These two "silks" provided an English blueprint to Black Belt by way of the koan.

BLUE PRINT TO THE EIGHTFOLD PATH

During May 1958 Shimabukuro Tatsuo Sensei awarded 4 “silks” as diplomas to Harry G. Smith and Art Smiley. These silks are exact replicas of the originals. The silks measure an original 12”x18” and are encased in a frame with your personal “Certificate of Authenticity” including your name and special number, and signed by Harry G. Smith with a guarantee that only 200 prints will be offered.
