Birthdate, death and official name

Shinkichi Shimabukuro was born on September 19th, 1908 in K(i)yan, Okinawa, Japan.  He was the first son in a family of ten children.  His father was Kama Shimabukuro and his mother Nabe.

Kyan is called Chan in Okinawan hogen (dialect).  Kyan later formed together with Nakaname, Chan Nakaname and is nowadays called Kinaka.  Kinaka is a part of Gushikawa City on Okinawa island, Japan.

As a baby he was given the Okinawan name Kana.  His official -Japanese- name is Shinkichi, as it is registered at his Koseki (Family Register) and later in his Passport.

Around 1947 he took his chosen name Tatsuo (= Dragon Man), the time he started giving karate instruction to Okinawans.  Also later in his life he shortened his family name to Shimabuku.  Although his official and written name is Shimabukuro.

Tatsuo passed away at May 30th, 1975 at 10:30 AM.  After staying for 2 to 3 days in hospital, where he was treated for high blood pressure.  He had a stroke or heart attack and died at the age of 66 years.
